According to Autobild, Mazda is working on a CX-5 based CUV-Coupe thingy along the lines of the X4/X6/whichever section of alphabet soup that Merc is called after, and all the others. Makes sense to get a piece of the action while the segment is expanding. I for one am looking forward to FP commenters getting aneurisms from being torn between their hate for these things and their loooooove for all things Mazda. “Darn BMW and their weird body shapes that make no sense. They have gone soft. But this Mazda S/CUV-Coupe/wagon thing is the shiiiiiiiiit.”

Plot twist: It’s going to be sold with a turbo rotary exclusively.

We need to all start a car company and just build brown diesel manual transmissioned RWD station wagons and have our tag line be “BECAUSE FUCK YOU, THAT’S WHY”.

In that case I won’t be buying one.

It’s still a too tall station wagon and the back needs to be squared off. My kid is already 5' at 10 yrs old.

I actually just think the X6 and the GLE Coupe from Mercedes are just downright ugly. I’ve no problem with them chasing sales. That rendering up there (although I know full well is from a third party) looks like a sleeker Macan - of which I’ve no problem with.
It’s just as impractical, but even that render looks bender than the bulbous looking X6 and its ilk.

Spoiler alert: It ends with bankruptcy in roughly a month.

I like the Merc version, and if the Mazda looks like what’s pictured above I’ll like that too.
